Some examples of heartworm preventatives for cats are Heartguard and Interceptor which are given by mouth. Topical monthly heartworm preventatives for cats include Revolution and Advantage Multi. These last two products also prevent fleas and ear mites. We love our pets and this disease is insidious. So get your pet protected today!
In the summer, our animals are surrounded by mosquitoes which can transmit several diseases, including heartworms. Even inside animals are at risk- don’t mosquitoes zap you every once in a while as you sit in front of the tube? When an infected mosquito lands on the skin of a pet and takes a meal, she transmits baby heartworms into the skin of that animal. At first, these worms are tiny, but eventually they make it to the heart where they make themselves at home. There they grow, feed and make more babies. Meanwhile, the heart has to work harder to pump blood around the worms. This only happens if dogs and cats are not on heartworm preventative.
Warm hearts for cold noses...
